One of Manchester’s premier shopping destinations is set to lose a flagship fashion store this week, as COS prepares to shut its doors in St Ann’s Square.
The city centre location, known for housing prestigious brands such as OMEGA, Christopher James, and Mappin & Webb, has long been a go-to for luxury shopping, offering high-end jewellery, clothing, and homeware.
However, the square will see a notable change this weekend as contemporary fashion label COS, part of the H&M Group, departs from its current unit. The store will officially close on Sunday, June 8, bringing an end to its run in this prominent retail area.
Known for its minimalist style and sharp tailoring, COS offers modern womenswear and menswear collections. The brand took over the former GAP unit in 2018 and has been a key presence on the square ever since.
A sign posted in the store confirms the closure date, stating:
“This store is closing on June 8. For more information, ask a member of our team or visit cos.com.”
While the company has yet to release an official statement, this closure comes not long after another H&M Group brand, Monki, shut its concept store in Manchester Arndale. & Other Stories—also part of the group—continues to trade from a large corner unit nearby, opposite Zara.
The departure of COS marks a shift in the retail makeup of St Ann’s Square, as changing consumer habits continue to reshape Manchester’s shopping landscape.
